This course will teach you:
- the criteria to classify wastes
- the analytical test methods to use in classifying wastes in California in order
- to determine if wastes meet the definition of hazardous waste according to the RCRA and HWCL
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Identify if a material is a “waste”
- Identify the exclusions and exemptions that apply to a material and a waste
- Identify the information and analytical data needed to determine if the waste is a hazardous waste
- Explain sampling designs and how they influence waste sampling
- Interpret laboratory data
- Draw waste classification conclusions from the information obtained
To meet these objectives, we will be asking a series of questions about the waste or material in question. As we go through the criteria you will use to identify hazardous wastes, we will:
- Introduce and briefly describe test methods
- Provide links to the references for you to examine more closely at your convenience
- Present examples and practical exercises to clarify concepts
