Statutory Exclusions/Exemptions

Up to now, we have been exploring exclusions and exemptions located in regulations. In California, as mentioned earlier, you will also find specific requirements located in statutes. The following exclusions/exemptions are found in the Hazardous Waste Control Law (HWCL).

1. The following wastes are not considered to be hazardous if they are only hazardous by oral toxicity criteria (LD50):

  • Acetic acid
  • Calcium fluoride
  • Aluminum chloride
  • Calcium formate
  • Ammonium bromide
  • Calcium propionate
  • Ammonium sulfate
  • Cesium chloride
  • Anisole
  • Magnesium chloride
  • Boric acid
  • Potassium chloride
  • Sodium bicarbonate
  • Sodium borate
  • Decahydrate
  • Sodium carbonate
  • Sodium chloride
  • Sodium iodide
  • Sodium tetraborate

Food flavoring oils:

  • Allspice oil
  • Ceylon cinnamon oil
  • Clarified slurry oil
  • Dill oils
  • Lauryl leaf oils
