National Chemical Response and Information Center
In 1985, the Chemical Manufacturers Association established the National Chemical Response and Information Center to provide technical support during chemical emergencies. The center consists of four programs:

CHEMTREC stands for the Chemical Transportation Emergency Center. It was established to provide information and assistance to personnel involved in a chemical emergency.
When a call is placed to the CHEMTREC toll-free hotline, personnel at the center can provide information regarding the nature of a chemical, as well as the hazards and specific response information. In addition, the caller can be put in touch with the shipper for more specific information.
CHEMNET is a mutual aid network between chemical shippers and emergency response contractors who respond when a shipper is unable.
The CMA Chemical Referral Center is a non-emergency number designed to provide a point of contact within the manufacturing company to anyone seeking information on specific chemicals.
